jtwine a collaborative experiment by silvia nonnenmacher and  jürgen trautwein - an evolving NIESATT project.

studied at the University of the Arts in Berlin, live and work in San Francisco, founders of jtwine.com in 1996.

jtwine are experimental artists working in a variety of forms, including new media and hypertext works, temporary interferences, installations and classical forms such as painting, drawing and photography. jtwine have been creating web works since 1996 with a strong focus on repetitious sound-image-motion-interactions. jtwine.com functions like an archive of fictional and real incidents where personal experience merges with visual research and documentary. jtwine is combining high and low tech, reflecting on the heterogeneous and pluralistic character of our visual culture and the web. their work has been shown widely in museums, non profit art spaces, festivals and galleries around the world.

current projects:

MMMelody )M(  this is not music - a NIESATT sound-screen project  - minimal sound paintings of noise and chance - elegies of lost worlds - tributes to the nature of being and to influential thinkers and artists.
musicforanarchyjunky is a minimalist linguistic interactive polyphony a burroughsious-chomskyian junk(y)phony; a tribute to early experimental music in particular to gesualdo and the form of the madrigal, substituted with the idea of the sprechstimme and realized with the intuition of a painter, combined with the full knowledge of a musical dilettante. babyloniananarchyjunky has nothing to do with music it just deals with the concept of multi-layered unrelated sound files of various durations playing at the same time, which can interactively be stopped or paused while listening.
musicformarcelduchamp is a composition for 5 predators, a flash project using 5 simultaneously playing sound-files of 4 animal predators as killer-wale, lion, jaguar, and tiger paired with a man-made war-sound file. musicformarcelduchamp is a tribute to his mysterious animalist final piece etant donnes and the viciousness of radicalism in thinking and art-making.
musicwithnoisestrument explores the idea of a noisestrument, a black keystrument something to make noise with depending how one hits the keys, one can create a noise-drone.
musicfordeadfish is an apocalyptic vision of the demise of large predator fish and fish in general as much as any other ocean creature. this project tries to evoke the feeling of ghostly dead zones in the oceans, creepy reminders of a once fertile and healthy bodies of water.
musicforjohncage explores the idea of  music as silence, or the silence between sounds, referring to john cage's most notorious piece 4’33” of his early ’50’s works, a piece for any instrument in three movements marked “tacet”, where the performer is to remain silent. musicforjohncage is a challenge to listening and to the depth of acoustic perception through being fully open in any given moment. any sound that may or may not be heard is entirely left to chance.
musicmassacre or no whispers but cries is a flash piece blending horrific war sounds into painful endless loops in three variations. this piece refers to the eternal reoccurrence of the same evil natured ness in humans as is suffering, pain and destruction.

noise_pix_bombs / jtwine re-twined - click your way into infinite repetitions of the same, an always the Same-Game SPIEL ohne ZIEL project. n_p_b is a remix, consisting of various former jtwine net art projects re-contextualized and re-twined. This is an anti war, experimental, virtual interactive sound-image-composition pseudo game. The n_p_b project questions repetitious perception of destruction with the option  of minute modifications, while repeating the same actions. It seems one can change a lot, but actually one doesn't. It's possible to white-wash most of the screen, but at some point the system stays the same, resulting in  being caught up in an endless loop of  war-machinery and destruction.
